Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,

Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,

Silence the pianos and with muffled drum

Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

(W.H. Auden)

Are you sitting down?

This album was made entirely from the sounds made by a washing machine in the basement of the artist’s home in Baltimore.

Unfortunately, by doing something as brilliantly demented as this, Matmos have rendered all music, even music made in the future, entirely pointless.

Music Journalist – “So, tell me, your multi-billion selling latest album? Did it comprise sounds made by your washing machine?”

Adele – “No. I wrote some songs about my boyfriend and went into a recording studio to record them with some really talented musicians.”

Music Journalist – “Oh. Are you planning any washing machine centric recordings in the near future?”

Adele – “No. I use my washing machine for washing my dirty clothes.”

Music Journalist – “Next please.”

And that’s all there is to say.
