Took me ages to get around to writing about this one - becoming more and more of a theme lately. Anyway, this is a recent-ish (if you can call the end of last year "recent-ish") Tiny Engines release that should appeal if you liked that Haybaby record they put out earlier this year. Kind of big indie rock in the vein of Pixies, Veruca Salt and The Breeders but it also borrows from an older post punk sound and features dual male/female vocals throughout. It's grown on me since initial listens and I've had it on plenty the last couple of weeks. "Little Apple Rot" has this slower, big swagger about it before it erupts at the end. The slower, acoustic title track towards the end changes things up a bit while the male vocals in particular have that disinterested drawly side. If you need a stand-out song then closing track "Drag Scene" nails the melancholy indie rock sound and is as catchy as you like. It's solid stuff and does enough on these six songs to suggest I should look out for what they get up to next.
