Difficult, difficult music. KC Toimil and Autumn Casey don't make things easy for we listeners, but then it doesn't sound like they’re having the loveliest time of it either. Scratched retinas. Chipped teeth. Bitter smiles while unpleasantness is being blithely meted out. This is pretty much what Snakehole are made of. Things weave and waver. Guitars are spidery and jagged. Vocals are by turns wheedling and confrontational. Occasional moments of prettiness occur, only to be engulfed by buckling chord shapes and sick-making waves of feedback. The Jesus Lizard and The Birthday Party are points of reference, but to be quite frank they're far easier to stomach than the uncompromising scrape going on here. Approach with caution!
