War With the Newts are from Berlin; given that they've only been around for a year they have been pretty active with releases and this is their second of three. It's a real mix of styles and that's the best thing about the record - it's interesting instead of run of the mill. I imagine I could happily watch this band over a short set and be impressed. Does it work for long periods? I'm not so sure - it's a mess and never really clicks, and I am not sure they know what exactly they are trying to do. The lyrics are atrocious too and put me off. The final track, where you can hear them clearly on an acoustic number, is unlistenable. Some work to do but some positives too.
