Gotta dig a record which has you scratching your head as to the speed it should be played at, and that's how 'Narco Bulldozer' lurches into life. Things gradually begin to make sense as the slow scrapes and curmudgeonly clanks pull themselves into some sort of hunched and ominous form: a limping, a quasi-mechanical thing with blistered skin and a sick, curdled spirit. On the B-side, 'Black Dog Blues' looms like something dragged out of a nightmare, bilious and glassy-eyed and knowing only that it wants to do you harm. Apparently the whole thing was improvised live in the studio, which is quite a feat considering how horribly together it all is– even for something that sounds like it could collapse into a slobbering dirge-punk heap at a moment's notice.
