Ann Beretta have got "it". "It" being that indefinable quality that separates the merely good pop punk from the pop-punk that bristles with hooks, inserts the most catchy of choruses into the place in your brain reserved for remembering the choruses from punk-rock tunes and generally causes one or more limbs to spasm wildly. I still haven't got over how great their Bitter Tongues album is and this 7" is a perfect stop gap measure until the new album arrives... and on Lookout none the less (who seem to have swapped one great Richmond band for another).

'Burning Bridges' is more of the same brand of quality melodic punk-rock as can be found on the album...but perhaps even more infectious? One of those songs that you need to hear live (and one of those songs that I know I never will). 'Open Ended' isn't quite as spectacular but as far as positive melodic punk songs go, you'll be hard pressed to find better. The only let down to this 7" is the cover of 'In the City' which although passable, is nothing to write home about. I'd have preferred an acoustic track here I think, mainly because Ann Beretta are one of the few bands that can do acoustic songs without making me yell "FILLER" at the stereo.

Great stuff.
