When you’re plugging away at the doom metal game it’s an extremely fine line between the mournful genius of Vitus or Pentagram and the bullshit bar rock peddled by the likes of Orange Goblin. Don’t ask me how it works, but some folks just have it whereas others don’t, and what “it” is no one really seems to know.
Iron Hears teeter giddily on the brink and just about pull it off, though in all honesty it’s a pretty fucking tough call. Their singer has clearly been schooling his pipes to match Wino’s sombre tones and the simple-yet-rockin’ riffs should have you pistoning one arm in the air to the extent that the Saxon patches on yer denim jacket may require restitching, but it’s all ultimately marred by some foolish lyrics (“Rocktupus”? I mean, really[/]…) and the lack of any real weight behind it. Still, I have a feeling these hairy bastards may just be in their larval stage, so we’ll give credit where it’s due and hope that next time they come a little closer to really nailing things…
