Protestant - Why Pay For Salvation? - CD (2006)

Labels: self released
Review by: Alex Deller

Straddling the line between heavy hardcore and grind come Protestant, mixing up pounding Infest-style parts, complex riffing (though never overtly so) and a whole variety of vocals that veer between shrieks, roars and powerviolent bellowing. The resulting four songs are thundering and vicious, a monstrous wall of sound with so much going on that you barely realise when the songs charge past the four-minute mark. Track three and its brutal climax gets my vote as the demo’s highlight, but to be honest it’s all great and far worthier of your time than a great many of the so-called “œproper” releases clogging up distro boxes the world over.
