Wreck Of The Hesperus - The Sunken Threshold - CD (2006)

Labels: Aesthetic Death
Review by: Kunal Nandi

A trio from Ireland with a painful pair of demos under their belt, this is their first album proper on the amazing label that brought you those Esoteric double disc sets and, more recently, Stumm. WOTH further plough the vein of addled doom stumblings, recorded in or around a biscuit tin and sounding all the more harrowing for it. Three tracks span an hour but it feels like a lifetime, such is the depressive tone of the piece. Scum-caked riffs, reverberating sub-bass and gargled vocals from beyond the grave – why do I put myself through this? Stunning artwork courtesy of the guy from The Dagda too. This is music to shit yourself to (in a very good way).
