Aghast - Sed Non Satiata - split - 7

Labels: unhurt
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Two Frenchy bands combine here on this split of noisy hardcore. Aghast offer up their side first, I was vaguely familiar with them from the split with the mighty 7923432 Travels of Javascript, but this stuff sounds more impressive to me. Fast, tight and crunchy hc with lots of the riff and sung vocals kicking in desperately over the top. I like their love of a quick pace and the fact that their songs pack in a lot of punch. The first song is preferable to the second, which kind of out stays its welcome in the end. Overall they probably took a few keys from 435345 Travels. Really solid tunes here, frantic and punked up. I liked it.

Sed Non Satiata though fall more under the blanket of ‘Pretty Average Euro Skramz’, doing the harsh vocalled squawking over metallish hc. One long song of skramming here, it is solid, but when Europe offers folks the likes of Shikari or La Quiete, you get to be a bit blasé (man I am so French!) about a band that sounds like this. I think 3 or 4 years ago there was a band at every gig I went to that did this kinda thing. Solid but unspectacular.

A bunch off labels put this out (COOL THING!), but the only one I knew of was Unhurt, because a couple of years ago I got to hang out with the guy who does this label (HL) at a Sage Francis / Sole show. Hey HL, sorry this took so long to get reviewed. Go Ipswich Town!
