Not being a fan of the Beachwood Sparks I was surprised at how good this record was, especially after seeing the pair on the cover – jesus.
All Night Radio is two guys (at least one of which is a member of the Beachwood Sparks) making psychedelic 60s pop with a whole horde of influences. They take reference from groups such as Pink Floyd (with Syd Barrett), Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Faust, the Pretty Things as well as groups such as the Flaming Lips, old British indie, the Animal Collective and even at times The Apes.
This massive bucket of influences means they have quite a varied sound, but the record works so well and they have great songs too, which helps.
“You’ll be on your own” has to the favourite of mine, the crazy echoed vocals over the wall of sweet noise just works again and again for me.
I think this is one of those records that is destined to be overlooked, take a chance on it before you forget about it, it’s a sweet trip!
