American Football - s/t - CD (1999)

Labels: Polyvinyl
Review by: Nadia Almashoor

American Football is amazing. It’s the 5th time I’m listening to the album. It somehow reminded me of June Of 44 at first, with certain instrumental tracks that has trumpet solos. “It’s not an emo record” I thought. But no. I was wrong. I was way too wrong. It rocks my so called emo self. Mid West post rock. Every structure in each song drifted me away to a far off place. Past present future. With lyrics like “I’ll see you when we’re both not so emotional.” it’s enough to make you ponder. Or not wonder at all. The 1st track ‘Never Meant’ struck me so hard. Emphasis on the bass lines, Mike Kinsella delivering his vocals well, the ups and downs of the song. Not just that song but the whole album itself.

American Football in the last Spring I remember. They score.
