Amtrak - Bleipony - LP (2006)

A slice of female fronted new wave jerkiness that comes over like a guitarless Thunderbirds are Now! Only in German! Then they calm down a bit and it’s like Stereolab sitting in a draught. I kind of like this, but there’s something missing sonically. I’m not saying they should have guitars but that bass sound could do with being a bit thicker, or something could do with completing the midrange. Keyboards and organs bleep away and the drums and bass are all there, perhaps not quite as hectic as they could be… Ideally I like bands like this to go completely Brainiac style mental and this is a bit restrained. The vocalist is a bit monotone at times as well, although my lack of German is perhaps making me judge this harshly, some more inflection wouldn’t go amiss thought. Gelee Royal is probably the catchiest track because it sounds like the lady might actually mean what she’s saying (though I don’t know what that is!). Coincidentally the artwork looks almost identical to the last Pit er Pat album (black insects making up the lettering on a white background) which I think does the whole guitarless keys lead thing alot better. A bit ho and a lot hum. Sorry my euro’ borthers and sisters.
