Animal Collective feat. Vashti Bunyan - Prospect Hummer - CD (2005)

Labels: Fat Cat Records
Review by: Chris Bress

This ep brings together one of the better new bands who deconstruct folk music with one of the true originals. The music has the usual dream-like quality as much of Animal Collective’s other records. The guitars are gently strummed and most of the vocals are left to Vashti’s beautiful howls. The first track sounds almost like Alice Coltrane or Dorothy Ashby fronted by Nico, doing a Charalambides cover!

“œProspect Hummer” the title and best track is a real hummer. It transports you from being sat in front of a computer to being sat on a canal boat with a few beers, on the hottest of all summer days. The sickly sweet melodies are so dreamy they nearly sent me to sleep.

If your looking for a short blast of thrash “” buy something else! It you want something to soundtrack the coming summer months either get this or something by Simon and Garfunkel. I’m buying both.
