Animal Collective - Here Comes The Indian - LP (2003)

Labels: Paw Tracks
Review by: Chris Bress

Animal collective are a strange group, the sort of band who play totally all over the place and original pieces and yet still manage to rock! They go from Racebannon meets Lightning Bolt style spazz fests to hippy rock drones and still manage to keep some form of song structure, whether it makes much sense on the other hand is debateable! They have a spacey edge to some of their songs, which are pretty in your face and not in anyway sleepy (definitely more Black Dice than No Neck Blues Band). Each song is begging to be played live though, I can imagine some serious energy and maybe even the odd dance routine (if not from them the from the crowd!). This looks as great as it sounds, it’s kind of imaginative child-like paintings over photos of overgrown trees and it’s an eye feast.

This band would go down a fucking treat supporting Black Dice or the Boredoms.
