Ann Beretta are just one awesome band. ‘Fuel’, the first of their two tracks, is taken from the ‘Bitter Tongues’ album and is a good an example as any of this bands ability to write quality songs. Melodic punk-rock played with passion and energy. Not unlike Avail (or is that taking the Richmond link a little too far) but with more melody. ‘Shovel’, meanwhile, is an acoustic version of another album track. Usually I would frown at this sort of behaviour until said acoustic version hangs its head in shame for being such a poor imitation. But I can’t bring myself to say a bad word about this track. Its beautiful.
Japanese band Spraypaint have the coolest artwork and great songs too. Its catchy pop-punk in the vain of label mates Navel and the Lovemen which I whole heartily approve of. This is good stuff and another success for Snuffy Smile.
