Anti-Flag - A New Kind Of Army - CD (1999)

ANTI FLAG’s second album is a pretty strong release. If RANCID had got their shit together after “œLet’s Go” instead of doing that awful “œWolves” thing, this might be what their 3rd album would have sounded like. There’s punk fucking rock with a distinct element of anarcho-streetpunk culture, but rarely dominating the sound – it sounds like cool US punk with a really good, sneering singer. They do a bit of anthemic stuff, a few ska bits, and it all just fits together so nicely. Occasionally the CD is guilty of becoming too samey, but a lick or riff will often jump out, holding your attention. Fucking cool album, and definitely worth borrowing, or if that whole UTTERS, DROPKICKS, RANCID stuff is your trip, worth buying.
