Bawdy, stomping, faintly ridiculous rock n’ roll that hits you hard upside the head with the half-empty beerbottle it holds in one hand whilst tinkering itself with the other. Mixing the rock of Mountain, AC/DC and latterday Hellacopters it’s clear the Wizard are aiming for a sound that could’ve found itself on the ‘Dazed and Confused’ soundtrack had it been born some thirty years earlier, and with that in mind they’ve met with resounding success. As a cultural or spiritual experience, #1 Tonite! is devalued currency for sure, but for those happy to shrug off such high falutin’ trappings, glug back a few stiff drinks and stuff their faces with greasy pizza it could well be the cornerstone to a good night out, or – for those with even lower expectations – a good night in”¦
