Beauty School Dropout - Teasing the Fat Kids - CD (2000)

Labels: Them’s Good
Review by: Ian Cavell

Well, you can go ahead and add Beauty School Dropout to the growing list of UK poppy punk bands that have got it sussed. BSD do the pop-punk thing, in a similar fashion to Skimmer but cleaner, crisper and, well, a lot better really. And while this album doesn’t quite match up to the awesome live show it still packs a hefty punch. Plus the CD has a great picture of a little fat kid on the cover with a bemused expression and wearing those funny “wedgie pants” you sometimes see little kids running around in.

But thats not really important when you’re confronted by killer tracks such as Poison Pen (the best pop-punk track ever?), Best Kept Secret and Rain. In fact, I’m loath to single out tracks because the whole thing is quality throughout. If you have penchant for the kind of punk music that comes wrapped in a bundle of melody but avoids the obvious pitfall of being overly sappy then this be the album for you. And for fucks sake, make sure you see them play live!
