Fun two-song 7″ from these chaps that has been out a while (though not as long as it was in the making!). Beezewax have evolved a touch from their classy debut album which was all fuzzy collegey indie rock, into a cleaner, purer summery indie pop band. First song “Burning Up In Style” is super catchy and mid-paced, makes me bob my head to it’s niceness, boop-di-boop-di-boop, there’s a guy having a tinkle on the ivories in the background too. Later in the song they throw in some brass also. Think a cross between the Bluetones and Promise Ring circa “Very Emergency”. That’s probably put everyone off. Too bad. I like it.
“The Bad Ways Stick” is the second song, it has a little more drive to it, kind of like earlier Superchunk, especially with the guitar solo parts and the crunchy power pop. Has some nice mellow, drifty parts that are total 1996 post-emo / “Nothing Feels Good” era Promise Ring. This is a good thing.
Can’t knock it, nice 7″.
