Benny - Finnish Road Junction - CD (2003)

Labels: Boss Tuneage
Review by: Mark Skold

I think I may have reached a point where the words melodic and hardcore don’t have a lot of meaning anymore. It’s a bit of a shame that Benny use these words to describe their sound. It’s a bit of a good thing, however, that they aren’t limited to those two things in what you actually hear.

It makes no difference to a song, but a goofy title will always get me going, and there’s some classics here. “Boston Kebab House”, “Shit yet pants” and “Anti Skijacket Song” are all great ones, and I managed to find reading the CD liner notes most amusing.

As for the tunes, there’s nothing really superb, but it all sounds pretty cool. A nice blend of “melodic hardcore” and pop-punk, with some of the usual ROCK thrown in for good measure.

The cover they do of Down Under is wank though. Pennywise do it way better.

A worthy record to stick on when you’re not quite sure what you think you should listen to.
