Benny - Our True Intent Is All For Your Delight - CD (2003)

Labels: Boss Tuneage
Review by: Tony Era

I’m gonna keep this review short and simple. Benny sound like a mish mash of nearly every punk band you have ever heard all rolled into one. They attack loads of styles and pull them all off with speed, energy and fun. Basically if you want a 30 minute work out that will make you dance, smile and laugh then get this. The only way to find out if you like them is to hear them, comparisons are useless here because every 30 seconds they sound like a different band.

One thing I thought when first hearing Benny though (on their first 10″) was is Aston (Boss Tuneage head honcho) doing this because he wants to or because he can? A lot of it is artistic licence and obviously on his own label he can do whatever he wants. But after hearing this I have come to the conclusion that they want to do this. Rarely can you hear a band having so much fun, this is also evident in the song explanations.

Which brings me on to the booklet. It’s a completely overblown 20 page colour booklet full of pictures of lots of different pointless things. Now I know this is probably just for a laugh but Boss Tuneage artwork and booklets let me down often so if they can do this for fun then do some proper booklets for other bands too.

Get this, and if you don’t like it pass it on to someone who will. Not timeless music but it’ll keep you going for a while.

PS Kumbyah mixed with No Limit will be on mix tapes for years to come. Techno Techno Techno Techno!!
