Wacka wacka, this is a shit hot first time release from a band that sound like they have been playing together for ages. Two songs of tight and bounding hardcore that is exceptionally in the vein of bands like Hot Snakes, Jehu and Science of Yabra, but they do such a good job with it. The guitar sound is particularly familiar, but man does it sound good. I often think that when bands put out their first release, they can sound like they should still be in the realms of just making demo’s, but Bullet Union are more than ready to unleash their brand of energetic rock on the unsuspecting public. “Stay Indie, Don’t Be A Hater” careers along without a care in the world, whilst the distorted vocals are yelled out emphatically and it’s a good solid effort. It is rather overshadowed though by the monstrous b-side, “Robin”¦.I’ll Be Back in Five Minutes”. This one filters through the jagged rock a similarity to emo bands of yore like Shotmaker and Amber Inn, I think it’s the almost spoken style to some of the vocals that make me think this, there’s one Shotmaker song in particular that I am trying to think of that it is a bit like. Oh well. Anyway, the song diverts off course later on into a slow burning finale that I really love. It’s a fine blend of styles, I think it’s nice to hear a British band that has a slight tinge of an old emo sound that you don’t normally encounter in these green and pleasant lands.
So yeps, good start for these dudes. I would love to see them live.
