Cadillac Blindside - Read the Book, Seen the Movie - CD (2000)

Labels: Soda Jerk
Review by: Martin Brown

I am beginning to adore this record. Accomplished as fuck, very very very GET UP KIDS, with a little DILLINGER 4 thrown in and a little more math rock coming in at the edges – a fine combination methinks. I even found a little JETS TO BRAZIL in there – perhaps even some PROMISE RING in the ranks too. They’ve got some pedigree, having performed with some of the best bands in the world (D4, ALKALINE TRIO, APPLESEED CAST, FUNERAL ORATION, THUMBS and AT THE DRIVE-IN to name but a few). The album has a fine natural momentum which puts them immediately up with their peers. The emo-rock / indie / punk transition works incredibly well and their confidence to go balls to the wall but maintain the subtlety and sincerity is unsurpassable. A fucking impressive debut album.
