Wow! I was so surprised at how much I liked this LP when someone put it on at work, it’s such a well written pop record. It’s really original, and incorporates so many different styles from Pinback-like pure pop songs to Dirty Three melancholy to what sounds like the soundtrack to a James Bond film! It doesn’t have such a Mexican feel as the record before (although it still has a bit of that sound) and for me that works. They must have spent ages writing these songs and piecing this album together as its so well-rounded and the songs are just flat out amazing. I’ve heard they are absolutely incredible live and I totally cannot wait till their gig at the Rescue Rooms. Don’t let the dodgy artwork put you off this great LP.
