I thought for some reason that Cannibal Ox had split, fuckin hell though, I’m glad they haven’t. Their full length “the cold vein” is an amazing and brutal piece of music.
This 12″ is Cannibal Ox (although without EL-P if I’m not mistaken) at their most average though, for them anyway. The good thing about their lp was how dark and brutal it was and this isn’t quite as nasty. The thing about this single is that it isn’t even really that disappointing, it is really good, it’s just not as good as what they’ve done in the past, and sometimes that’s worse I guess. Rob Swift of the X-ecutioners makes an appearance and luckily doesn’t drag them down into terrible hip-pop territories like I was worrying.
Invisible, an artist I’d never heard lays down a pretty killer track though. His vocals flow really well and its got a fuckin ace almost motown backing track which works really well against his smooth vocals. I guess its similar someone like Murs but infused with a bit of King Geedorah.
It’s always good to hear something you’ve never heard and to be this impressed, especially when you bought the other record for the other side!
