I’ve just finished listening to the Saddest Landscape 7″ for the first time, which blows me away, so when some mid-paced indie-rock protrudes from the speakers I”m feeling decidedly under whelmed. My first thought is that the mid-range, mid-pace, mid-toned, mid-everything rock music reminds me very much of Chamberlain, and after a couple more listens the singers voice at times is positively in imitation of that wonderful rootsy voice of the formers band’s singer. However, this is Chamberlain minus any of the features that makes them so invigorating a band, i.e. fantastic vocals, exceptionally played instruments and solid song writing. I’d like to be less harsh, – there’s nothing decidedly offensive about the music, it’s just there’s much better around of a similar style, and its been done many times before. It just sort of plods along and I’d love to be able to say more than that”¦there’s some melody, some singing, the odd chorus with a slightly better tune than the verse, and that’s about it despite how many times I skip through to find anything else worthy of comment. Ho-hum.
