Labels: Positive Outlook
Review by: Ian Cavell
Quite simply the best release yet for Peterborough based label, Positive Outlook. If only all hardcore could be this good; acknowledging the obvious links to the bands of yesteryear while enthusing enough energy and individuality to brush aside any wisps of being “just more generic straight edge hardcore”.
Technically this is a mini-cd, but at nine tracks the length is spot on for this style of hardcore. Kicking off with the strongest song, ‘Conspiration’, a perfect blend of raucous melody and shifting rhythms, you really couldn’t ask for a better wake up call. Carnated then proceed to let loose in a manner not unlike Refused, although it would be fair to say they don’t possess quite the same complexity as their fellow countrymen. However, they have enough twists and turns, from subdued melodic diversions to elements of full on street punk, to keep most people on their toes.
Well, fuck me… another great hardcore band from Sweden. Will they ever stop?
