Choke Their Rivers With Our Dead - Summer Tour - CD (2002)

Labels: self released
Review by: Andy Malcolm

I am not quite sure what this CD was put out for because I lost the letter that came with it (apologies to the band for taking so fucking long to review it too), though the title is a give away I guess! It has 4 songs and was limited to 96 copies, I think it might be a demo of some songs they are re-recording at a later date? Anyway, sorry to the band for being careless! Because musically this is pretty cool and different to a lot of stuff I listen to, though something must be wrong with me as this is the 2nd good metal(ish) band I have been listening to in as many days (after Neil Perry). These folks really remind me of the Sutek Conspiracy (who had a bunch of things out last year), not in their exact sound but in that they have this really metallic leaning to their sound but it’s melodic enough for me to enjoy and also has an emo tinge to the whole kaboodle too. CTRWOD have awesome growled vocals that are super distorted and suit the music well, though on song 4 their singer does some awesome spoken vocal parts that gives it a super emo flavour (like if Moss Icon had a female singer!). Opening track “Burgundy Skies” has an immense melodic groove when it gets going that I really loved, I think if these folks do an album then it could sound monsterous.

I really recommend folks into the heavier end of the screamy spectrum check these out as I like them way more than most bands doing that thing who I have heard lately. Classy.
