Okay, so one guy from one place sends drum tracks to another guy in another place and this effort is born. Thing is, these two chaps aren’t any old musos – one’s Dave Witte, the formidable sticksman behind Discordance Axis and the other is Chris Dodge, who spends his time juggling duties in Spazz and as Slap A Ham head honcho. Sounds bonkers on paper, and in reality it’s even more crazed, much of the time falling loosely within the grind / power violence sphere, heavy as fuck, fast as fuck and altogether unhinged. There are also these strange veerings into the world of demented jazz, Witte and Dodge sampling the delights from whichever subterranean netherworld Crom Tech inhabit, drinking the murky water and eating giddily of the forbidden fruit so that perceptions are altered and guitar skronks sound like Eddie Van Halen is straight off the wagon and greedily snorting homemade liquor. Vocals appear from each of the various levels of hell, sometimes gargling and distorted, sometimes the straight-up Spazz blargh and sporadically sounding like the girl from Deerhoof pretending to be a machine gun, rounding it all off and making for something that’s disquieting, baffling and intriguing in equal measure.
