Labels: Kevyt Nostalgia – Super Metsä
Review by: Chris Bress
This gig was one of the best gigs of last year. It featured storming sets from Birds Of Delay (including Paul fully cloaked holding aloft a cross), Guapo, Like a Kind of Matador and Jazzfinger, I unfortunately missed Ultralyd by way of drunkenly getting my fourth meal of the day (amazing vegetable pakoras). The real deal was however brought down on me at the end when I caught for the fourth time one of the best bands around at the moment; Circle. The Holy Trinity Church was a great venue with great sound and they played a monumental set, loosely based on a riff the improvised group rattled through a rocking Viking style rock set which reminded me of Popol Vuh, Enslaved, Can and Sun Ra all at the same time.
Why then is the live document shit? Was I really that pissed??? From the other sets I have caught they were always blinding, and my mates at the Church thought they rocked too. So it is the sound that ruins what should be one of the best records this year. Its such a shame, but the quality is absolutely dire and it’s totally unclear half the time what the band are actually doing.
Go for the ‘Empire’ live 12″ instead.
