Come Down - Whose Side Are You On, Anyway? - CD (2003)

Labels: self released
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Dude! It’s one of those dinky lil 3″ CD’s. I am well down with tiny records. Normally because it means they are pretty short and I am not gonna get my arse bored off by the band that has been digitially inserted onto it. But I think that I could easily enjoy this band over much more material than they cram into this little blighter.

Come Down play a spacey brand of indie rock which is polished up rather brightly. It glides along in a smooth, sleepy fashion and the first song for some reason makes me think of Mineral or early Gloria Record, I think it’s because the vocals have very slight whiny emo tendencies, whilst the guitars shimmer and twinkle quite delightfully. “Hollywood English” is more upbeat and energetic, and I get brief hints of the Antarctica CDEP. Enough of references though, I should try and concentrate on describing what’s going on. Although that is fairly tough as I have to say I am not overly familiar with this style. Come Down focus on atmosphere, wandering guitars and floaty sung vocals that drift in and out. The drumming gently persuades the music to flow onwards without getting too forceful, and Come Down concoct some really enjoyable moments over the 20 minutes on this CD.

Four tunes of spaced-up indie rock indeed. I enjoyed this a lot, and I think a full length by these folks would be pretty hypnotic and very enjoyable. Good uns. Check out Charlie’s interview with them on this site too yo.
