I’ve got to admit it, although I was intrigued by the cover of the last record by them (“Field Recordings From The Sun”) I had no idea who they were and only checked it out when I heard it had a cameo from the man behind Six Organs of Admittance. So I was kind of expecting real 60s folk rock. Well, it wasn’t like that at all. That record was totally brutal garage psyche metal fuzz shit that killed my ears with its relentless noise and I loved it.
This record makes the last one look like the Hives or something. As soon as I put the needle on the record I thought it was a all-out Merzbow record. This has Julian Cope written all over it!! Total Stooges meets Acid Mothers madness.
With this record being so much more nuts it’s nice to have another break on it which I’m guessing is the finger picking Ben Chasny. Much like most Six Organs of Admittance recordings it’s beautiful, dark and eerie. The feedback that echoes over and over in the background sounds awesome. I’d like to hear a whole record of Fahey style playing with Kawabata fuzz over it.
The fact that the cover is a bit like Pushead’s stuff is just the icing on the cake.
Beware – the recording is fuzzed to the max (in fact it almost cuts out at times), but, dude, its worth it!
