Controller.Controller come from Canada and seem to have named themselves after a Shotmaker song. With this in mind it’s even more disappointing that they play formulaic, style-over-content post punk bunk that’s probably more concerned with how it looks in the mirror than how the music sounds. One part Joy Division, one part routine Gang Of Four namedrop (even if the stabs at militant funk do sound more like the Doobie Brothers”¦) and a splash of spacey post rock mean that my eyes are rolling back so far I can see my own brain begin to gently shut down. Seriously, the only thing that makes this remotely bearable is that these folks sound just as bored playing their music as I am listening to it, and if that’s the case perhaps they should review their career choices and find a more rewarding way to spend their free time – maybe volunteering to take delinquent teens out on canoeing holidays is an option? Something else has to be.
