Woah this is a massively messy recording, but holy cow is this fucking great 7″. And I think the ramshackle nature of the “production’ is all part of the attraction for me at least. Coulier offer up two songs of utterly desperate and grooving emo that rips it up totally, and the vocals are wonderful, some of the best emo crying I have heard in ages. The music is reminiscent of Embassy (especially vocally) getting tangled up with something like mid-period Braid, all helter-skelter melodic rhythms and crunchy parts. For some parts they forget to cry and the instruments are just flying around wildly, this is just so spazzable! The first song does have a little moment towards the end where it loses direction and they play some metal, but the rest of the song totally counterbalances it. Side B is “Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” and you know you are in for a treat from the get go, with the oh-so-emo bawling over those sadsadsad guitar chords that will have you wanting to roll around on your bedroom floor tugging on your hair and anything else you can find. It rolls into a sweeping groove that bowls me over with ease. They break things down in the middle of the song with squeals and funny sounds (makes me think of Zuexeus), then it all comes tearing back again with the wrenched vocals destroying all, before it gets all mid-west emo and melodic out of nowhere for a moment, sliding into the ace ending with ease. Super good. Get this if you like emo!
