Crucial Unit - RAMBO - Sea of Steel vol I - 7

Labels: Ed Walters Records
Review by: Andy Malcolm

What a cool record! I was well chuffed to get sent this for review, I really like the stuff that Ed Walters Records has put out before so to get sent some stuff for free is ace. And to get a record of this quality is doubly fun! Anyway, this record is first in a series of records about bike punx, and it comes with a big ole booklet about bikes and shit. Woo.

Smart Fact about RAMBO -> they have an ex-member of Policy of 3!!! Ace!!! Anyways, I’d never heard this band so was interested to check ’em out. Here they are playing pretty beefy hardcore with angry vocals and a whole lot of crunch. The first tracks is pretty straight forward, the second one is faster and short. Then they finish up with another fast hardcore song. Well, what can you say, it’s fast hardcore! Kinda snarled vocals and some gang backups at times, it’s all very well done. I haven’t heard much of this kind of hardcore in a while, so I was well up for it.

Crucial Unit win this war though, they play all out fast hardcore with high pitched yelpy vocals. I found it much catchier and more danceable than RAMBO. I would mosh it up to these guys. They have a song called “Chinese Restaurant Mosh Pit” with the crew shouting “We love fake meat!” at regular intervals. And you have to appreciate the sentiments on “Bikes Not Bush”.

This has been one of the most popular records I have had in my distro, so I guess that says something about it. Anyways, my bike got thrown away because it had a puncture and the seat broke so I am not a bike punk, but that doesn’t mean I can’t rock this record. Good uns!
