Current 93 for me are one of those special bands and Stapleton, Cashmore and Tibet have made another excellent release in “the Seahorse Rears to Oblivion”. This release is four takes on one track, all ever so slightly different, but noticeably so. The song is loosely based on a guitar (at least I think it’s a guitar) drone which zooms in and out and sounds fantastic underneath the majestic (or ridiculous) voice of David Tibet. Different versions of the track have ambient picked guitar, strings, vocal effects and more which all add to the song and make it possible to listen to the same track four times in a row without it getting irritating. Apparently the text from this release was written during the “Soft Black Stars” sessions, “Soft Black Stars” is an incredible record oozing with emotion and sadness as is this one.
Another immense and amazing record from one of the best groups in the world.
