At first I thought this was another crap poppy singer songwriter record that my boss was playing. Slowly it grew and grew on me and now I love this record. This is the first Damien Jurado record I have, apparently all of his records before this are very different. This is really snoozy poppy rock (mixing Beezewax, the Lemonheads, Sugar, Built to spill and even a little bit of Ryan Adams! but he’s crap) record whereas before this record it was apparently dark sparse singer songwriter kind of stuff. One of the tracks also really reminds me of Rainer Maria.
My favourite song “castles” is really emo but with almost country style singing…it’s such a fucking good song though. Totally perfect rock song. I can’t stress how worth it this LP is (also it was only like 7 quid), if you see it get it. C’mon its the Summer nearly! You need a record like this! Even if Henry thinks it’s shit, but who cares hes a dork and only likes Discharge and Elvis. This is limited to 2000. Gotta mention the awesome cover that folds out to make a little chair – EMO! Check this out!
