Labels: Good Life

Dead Blue Sky, formed in Ohio, features members from Florida’s Morning Again and this 7″ marks their debut ep put out by Goodlife, a Belgian label. They churn out 2 tracks that are both equally fast and melodic. Focusing more on the metal aspects through their riffs and structures. Vocals are screamy ala Kyle Bishop (ex – Acrid, current – Grade). Not too deep and throaty like most “metal” bands. Lyrically, they’re very personal and distressing. In ‘The Dawn Of Every Day’, Christ Scherrer breaks down into “…my chest is ripped wide open and my heart spills to the ground, you’ve cut my life away, do you like what you have found…” Their rhythms are somewhat similar to Swedish band, In Flames’ ‘Episode 666’ . While ‘Reduce to a Whisper’ has more harmonics sometimes even reminiscing of Hot Water Music. With short stops and twinkles and then rolling away again. This record is impressive even though I’m not too big on metal. But it’s worth checking out anyway. And for all you coloured vinyl nerds, this comes in dark (dead) blue (sky).
