This is good. This is very good. I don’t have a clue who this band are, but they have cranked out an excellent 7″
here. Especially the first song, “My Damn Parachute Won’t Open” which sounds like the kind of song you’d find on
an ultra obscure mid 90’s emo/hardcore 7″. It powers out from the get go, with dual screamy / shouty vocals and
super-quick guitars, giving it an essence of Palatka-esque emo violence. There is a worrying but brief moment
when they play around with some metal, but luckily it comes right back to form very quickly, dropping into a sad
twinkly part, before building up again with twin singers and the guitars crashing around chaotically. A bit like
I Hate Myself, if you will. Then on side B with have the similarily fine “I Embrace L Ron Hubbard As My Personal
Saviour”, which is all over the shop initially – a frenzied chaos of screaming and guitars. Dual vocalled
spazzing and lots of knocking the mic over going on here. Towards the end of the song it builds into a dynamic finale similar to that employed by bands like Indian Summer. One guy sings badly, one (or more) others scream to bits, and the guitar just climbs into a big ball of noise. You lose track. After that we get one live recording that is pretty decent. It’s a mess of fast guitars and yelling, dang.
In summary: brill.
