Labels: Council – Lengua Armada
Review by: Andy Malcolm
Hardcore.
That could sum up this review, as there is not much else one can say musically about a band such as Dearborn S.S. No metal, no indie rock, no 3 second long songs, just pure and simple FUCKING HARDCORE (*).
This 7″ is out as a split between Lengua Armada and Council, which should instantly give you some idea as to the level of it’s credibility. And re-affirm that Council was never simply an emo label. If you’ve heard the Ottawa stuff Council put out (I only have it on tape, I suck), then DSS fit in perfectly with that release. Fast, no-nonsense, hard hitting shit like Born Against and probably a hundred and one 80’s hardcore bands that I never heard of. If I wasn’t writing this review right now I would be hurtling round the room to “Shovelling Shit In A Shit Factory” with it’s spot on intro that builds and gets you standing up in anticipation of what’s to come. The bands utilise dual vocals, a combination of guttural yells and higher pitched throaty shouts, and they fit together perfectly.
And don’t get freaked by the band name, it is perfectly explained in the inlay, a long with the great political lyrics that have handily been translated into Spanish, French and German. Though let me finish with the cheeze: the language of hardcore is universal. If I said you needed this, would you pay any attention?
(*) note: I only typed that cos I want people searching for porno sites to be directed for collective.
