Del Cielo - Sin Desires Marie - split - 7

Labels: Ed Walters Records
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Crikey. Del Cielo’s singer sounds exactly like Elizabeth Elmore crossed with Alison Discount. If you haven’t heard either of those singers then that is not so helpful. The music is very much a cross between Sarge and Discount also, kind of melodic indie rock with light guitar parts preceding the chuggier rock outs. It’s all very pleasant and makes me tap my toes at times. It’s pretty ok and it’s nice to hear this sort of thing still being done.

Sin Desires Marie are a bit more peculiar, they have bassy DC-ish rhythms which makes me want to compare them to Hoover. I haven’t listened to Hoover in ages though so I can’t promise if that is true or not. I guess also perhaps you could compare to stuff like Engine Down or the Van Pelt or something like that. It builds up and has dual female shouting at times which works real well. Very moody, I would like to hear more, and they sound more complex than their 3 piece status lets on. Really really really good.

Quality split between 2 pretty different bands, I think I preferred SDM more. More props to Ed Walters.
