Two originals and a cover from this Cleveland (quite the musical hotbed it seems) band. You can spot the influences a mile off, but at least they’re damn good ones. Elements of The Dismemberment Plan abound in the skewed melodic sense, with some good old D.C.-styled hardcore crunch in the choruses. The duelling guitars twist away in a Pretty Girls Make Graves manner, making this a short-but-sweet gem straight from America’s heartland. Incidentally, Peter Gabriel’s “Digging In The Dirt” was a good song to start with, and Denovo’s straight rocky interpretation does nothing to change that. There are lots of bands like this, but not many who are so good so soon. Roll on the full-length!
