Discordance Axis start the whole shebang off with their manic brand of hideous devil-grind. Faster than the train that knocks you out your shoes because you thought you could “easily” make it across the tracks, and liable to have much the same effect. Just one ‘proper’ (i.e. minute-long) song, though, before they contribute an atmospheric track that kinda leaves you twiddling your fingers and waiting for another dose of their rabid grind assault…
Then Corrupted, the Yin to Discordance Axis’ Yang. We switch from hyper speed down to slow motion sickness, still just as unpleasant but taking a more leisurely approach to caving in your weakling’s skull. The sound on this recording is just thick and enormous, rattling the teeth in your head and threatening to turn your bowels inside out. Musicianship moves at a glacial pace while the drums pound with inhuman regularity, like the celestial clock that ticks seconds off your life. Vocals are a croaking gasp, hollered and spat through blood-flecked lips for what seems like aeons. Painful, slow and beautiful. It makes you wonder how the folks in this band can get out of bed in the morning to make music like this.
324 are the final element to this three-way doohickey, and play heavy, Terrorizer-influenced grind. This means plenty o’ throaty shouts and music that’s only ever played somewhere between fast and very fast. Decent in itself, but mere gravy when compared to the two heavy hitters who’re making this release truly essential.
