What, more Discount! Yeah, they keep releasing records and we keep buying them and telling everyone how great they are… Its another two tracks from one of America’s finest bands right now. ‘Harder To Tell’ is brand new and typical Discount, (ie excellent). The J Church comparison is well used – but its accurate so I’ll stick with it. But throw in Alison’s vocals and swing the lyrical aspect around to a more personal nature and you have the wonderful Discount. The 2nd track, ‘Pict Song’, is a cover of a Billy Bragg song. You just have to admire the lyrics on this one – they have a lot to say and Discount are a good voice for them.
On the flip side is My Winter Jane. Shock! A Snuffy Smile band with female singer. ‘Language’ isn’t too bad.. Nice lyrics, disjointed melodies – is this indie-emo I wonder? As I said, not bad but nothing staggering. The 2nd track, ‘Face Saver’, seemed to want to be about three different songs all at the same time which hurt my head a little. Less impressive by a long way.
