Disfear - Misanthropic Generation - CD (2004)

Labels: Relapse
Review by: Kunal Nandi

As you might expect from a Dis- band, this is a full-on d-beat punk hardcore attack, helpfully bolstered by the ungodly yelling of Tomas Lindberg, ex-At The Gates vocalist, so the only way this could fail to get a good review is if the CD had been missing from the case. Apologies for starting out on a muso-wanker footing by examining the full-fat heavy metal production job on this before any of the actual song-writing, but it really is remarkable how excellent these 12 songs sound (thanks to the good work by Mieszko from Nasum). It’s polished to fuck, but there’s still plenty of bollocks to it, a bit like if Tragedy had 14 times the recording budget. At about the halfway mark, I do start to get a bit knackered due to the monotone nature of the music, but even the filler tracks kick arse, with the real standouts providing a mean riff, or a howling solo, or an insanely hefty drumbeat, or a twisted lyric, or just something with that essential X-Factor. This is hard, fast and loud entertainment, with plenty of memorable bits.
