Dripfeed - Demo - CD (2003)

Labels: self released
Review by: Mike Whelan

Dripfeed are a London based indie band, with an obsession for Coldplay. At least I get that impression from their short bio, which mentions the southerners on three separate occasions. This is a pity, because Dripfeed sound nothing like their heroes, and remind me more of a cross between Embrace (no, not that one, the other one, from Bradford) and Mineral (yes, that one).

I was expecting the usual standard of music I often hear in demos, but this two-song effort is actually pretty good. The vocals are excellent and the production puts many more expensive efforts to shame. Both songs sound fairly similar, laid-back, jangly and low-tempo, but in this case Dripfeed are working with a strong formula, and you hardly notice at all.

There isn’t very much to say about the demo, but that’s only because it’s too short by half. It does bode very well for their forthcoming EP however, and Dripfeed could well be one to watch out for, then perhaps Coldplay will be talking about them.
