After their ‘Busy SIgnal…’ outing for Hydrahead, I’d had some pretty high hopes for this latest effort. Shame, then, that it manages to consistently fall so far short of the mark. Sure, you still have the melodic sensibilities of a band like Grade colliding head on with the gruesome noisiness of Converge/Botch/whoever, thus effectively combining yer punk bits, metal bits and scrreamy emo bits all in one horrid lump, but to these ears it all sounds like a desperate bid for thrown-together diversity that just doesn’t seem gel as fluidly as it really ought to, hammering away instead like the divvy kid who can’t fit the square block into the round hole, bashing the fucker repeatedly until it almost does.
