Duckstab - demo - CDR (2005)

Labels: self released
Review by: Joe Caithness

Duckstab are a reasonably new hardcore punk band from Leeds6. Musically this isn’t the most exciting thing ever, it’s pretty old skool to my ears, the first track reminded me a bit of SOA, a lot of the tunes have the urgency of early 80s hardcore. But musically there isn’t much substance here, which is a shame because lyrically there is loads. In fact there is a proper lyric sheet and the lyrics are about ten times better than the music, plus I like the way the explainations are honest and written as if spoken which just seems a lot purer to me. Good attitudes shine through more than the music here, which I have to admit I have got more into as the cdr goes on, until I got to the ambient bit with the bleeps, that just confused me. All in all, I will keep looking out for this band, and selling their demo coz this probably will evolve into something neat, just needs to fall into place a bit I feel.
