Emergency! Action Boys - s/t - 7

Labels: Dead Tank
Review by: Andy Malcolm

There is one song on this 7″, well, there are two, but one of them is SO FUCKING GOOD! Those with a keen eye will probably detect at least a hint of Braid in the band name, it’s everso Bob. Then you slap the record down on the turntable and stick the needle on “I Didn’t Mean Last Night” and get carried away on the super catchy rhythms and boys singing and riffing and doing all those scratchy guitar parts and breaking it down and mid-westing you to bits. SO FUCKING GOOD! Now the recording does sound like junk on my recordplayer, but I am in desperate need of a new stylus, so that could be my fault, but despite the fuzziness I am still in love with this song. If you enjoy the fast Braid songs that came towards the end then you’ll be blown away by this too.

I was a little disappointed in the other song after being treated to that. The vocals are kind of dodgily sung, with more desperation than the joyous poppy stuff on the first side, and it just doesn’t work for me, the sung vocals are a bit mainstreamo too, whilst the music is a little mathier and more ragged. It’s ok and there are some really nice parts, just, it doesn’t sound like a great imitation of Braid which the other song did! I’m rubbish.

Emergency! Action Boys just need to go out and make an entire 12″ of Braid inspired melodies now and I’ll be the happiest dork in emo. Aces!
